Message from the Principal
Ding Hao Chinese School Radnor, PA for English-speaking families who wish to learn Chinese
Dear Everyone,
We have a number of issues that are very pressing right now.
1) Help obtain a grant for the Ding
Hao School! In the past, Ding Hao has been the recipient
of numerous donations from non-profit Foundations that have helped
subsidize various projects. However, the school has not quite
received sufficient funding for Mrs. Foo to complete the creation of
a Chinese culture/arts & crafts book for our school. Therefore, she
is seeking any parents who may be aware of Foundations that donate
money for cultural projects such as hers. Mrs. Foo is hoping to
obtain a grant so that the culture/crafts book can be completed and
published.
Are there any Ding Hao parents who have
experience with grant writing? Is there anyone who is connected with
a charitable Foundation that might be willing to contribute to this
very important Ding Hao project?
If so, please contact Betty Foo as soon
as possible at 610 527 2548.
2) An opportunity for a bit of cultural immersion! Six students from China who attend the University of Pennsylvania are eager to spend a day or afternoon with any of our families during a weekend between now and March of 2009. The students are responsible for their own transportation, and the host family would meet them at a nearby train or bus station. You might wish to invite them for dinner or a family outing. (However, if the trip is out of state, the host family must notify GSE of University of Penn. or Betty Foo.) In addition, these students would gladly help your children with their Ding Hao homework or practice their Chinese! A number of families hosted students last year and reported it to be a wonderful experience. If you are interested in hosting, please contact Betty Foo at 610 527 2548.
4) Help from parents. Since we have 15 classes this year, we really need help from the parents. If you are available during coffee time in the parents' room, we would love to have you help us cut and paste or photocopy handouts for the teachers. We will have the Xerox machine available in the Parents' Room for this purpose. Teachers will pick up the materials you worked on during breaks or at the end of class. Thank you in advance for your cooperation!
5) Flash Card competition. Our first Chinese character recognition competition will start around February. Each class will be having their own competition. The top students will be chosen to represent his or her class and give a demonstration. The demonstration will be scheduled according to level. You will be notified in early spring about the date and the time. We encourage all Ding Hao students to participate.
Thanks for your attention!
Sincerely,
Betty Foo |
