Cultural interest

·          Chinese Scholar’s Garden located in Botanical Garden, Staten Island

The New York Chinese Scholar's Garden 寄興園 (or New York Chinese Garden) is a part of the Staten Island Botanical Garden, located in the Snug Harbor Cultural Center. The garden materials were shipped to Staten Island in the spring of 1998 and the garden opened in June 1999. A team of 40 Chinese artists and artisans from Suzhou constructed the garden.

·          Lunch at Flushing restaurants: the largest Asian community outside of New York’s Chinatown. There are large Chinese bookstores, restaurants, herbal stores, tea shops, Chinese bakery, large Chinese supermarkets, even a Chinese mall with Chinese food court.

Transportation

·          School will charter a large bus. Teachers will be tour guides.

Time

·          Leaving from RHS before 8:30 am .

·          Arrive the garden around 11 am.

·          Shopping and touring till 4 pm.

·          Return to RHS around 7 pm.

Fees

·          School will pay the first bus rental ($1400). If a second bus is necessary, each family will need to contribute some money.

·          Admission to the garden is around $5 for adults and $4 for kids.

·          Lunch around $10 per person.

 

 

Children must be accompanied by at least one parent.

You are encouraged to sign up right away via mail, because space is limited, and registrations will be accepted on a first-come-first-served basis

 

Note: Due to limited space, this trip is available only to children and parents of Ding Hao. Children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian. We will not have space to include extended family or friends. 90 Ding Hao parents and 15 teachers have expressed an interest in the trip via email. We can only accommodate approximately 50 people per bus (two buses).  Please sign up as soon as possible. You are welcome to drive in case demand prevents us from accommodating everyone.
