October 5, 2009

Dear Parents, Members, and Friends of CCAGP:

Without the Chinese Cultural Association of Greater Philadelphia (CCAGP), our MingDe and DingHao schools would simply not exist.  As their umbrella organization and foundation CCAGP plays a vital role in supporting teachers, cultural activities, Chinese New Year, the fall picnic, and families.  To continue this support we need your support when you fill out your 2009 United Way pledge form.

CCAGP’s mission reaches beyond scholastically promoting Chinese language and culture to helping to deepen mutual understanding between our community and its ethnic Chinese residents.  It began in 1961 with the launch of the Main Line Chinese School for Chinese families (MingDe), and we have since established in 1997 the DingHao program to offer Chinese language and culture to children in the wider community.   Over the years we have become a truly multicultural organization, sponsoring a wide range of cultural and service activities in our community:  the Main Line Chinese festival, English classes for older and new Chinese immigrants, after-school Chinese language programs in the public schools, a Chinese art festival at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, visits to homeless shelters and retirement homes, the MingDe Chorus, and a variety of public seminars.

Thus far this year, we’ve sponsored the Fall Picnic and will sponsor our Chinese New Year celebration this coming January.  We will continue to support curriculum development and teacher training, as we enrich our students’ learning experience both in the classroom and outside.  This includes special classes in Tai Chi, Chinese yo-yo, folk dance, yoga and Erhu, among other traditional Chinese instruments.

All of these activities rely on contributions from our members and friends.  To help us continue in this rich tradition, we are asking for your support when you fill out your 2009 United Way contribution designation form.  Please use the United Way Donor Choice option to earmark a pledge to CCAGP, option number 7277:

7277    Chinese Cultural Association of Greater Philadelphia

PO Box 79, Villanova, PA 19085

Please note that the 7277 option number is specific to United Way of Southeastern PA (Web site: http://www.uwsepa.org/).  Other UW chapters use other numbers; so be sure to specify the full name of our organization as listed above and use the option number that your chapter has assigned to us.

Thank you very much for your support.

Dr. Harrison Chao, President CCAGP

Dr. Eugene Kroch, Fundmanager, CCAGP
