Character Recognition Day Information

The PTO is happy to sponsor Character Recognition Day, next Saturday 3/18/17 at 10:15 AM to 11 AM at the circle time pod.  This is designed to be a fun, low pressure event for the students and an opportunity for them to demonstrate their knowledge of Chinese characters after all of their hard work.   All students in levels pre-k through pinyin/middle 3 will participate in the group demonstration with their classes and all students will receive a participation award. After the group demonstration, students who have signed up in advance with their teacher will then participate in the individual competition with other members of their class.  The judges will be looking for correct translation in Mandarin and English, good pronunciation, and correct tones.
The number of individual prizes that will be awarded in each class is determined by the class size and number of participants from each class.  Class size varies quite a bit through the levels and Mrs. Foo and the teachers want to give the kids a fair shot at winning an individual prize. After careful consideration, the following is a breakdown of the number of prizes that will be awarded in each class:
Pre-k – 1st,  2nd, and 3rd place
K – 1st and 2nd place
Middle 1 – 1st and 2nd place
Middle 2 – 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place
Pinyin/Middle 3 – 1st place
Again, all students will be receiving a participation award.
Refreshments will be served at 11AM for all students, including the upper level students who are invited to come to the lower pod after completing their written tests.
Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns about the Character Recognition Day.  We will both be at Chinese school tomorrow and will be happy to answer any questions or discuss concerns.  You can also email or call us.
Bake Sale
Last week’s bake sale was a success and we sold out quickly.  Thank you to the Giordano’s for picking up the pastries in Chinatown!  We would like to try and hold additional bake sales more often and are looking for feedback on which items are your favorites.  Pork buns, sponge cake, custard tarts, buttercream buns, others?  Please email us and tell us your favorites so we can have more of those for the next bake sale!
